Impact of wave hub plan assessed

An independent assessment of Cornwall's planned £15m Wave Hub has found it will have little effect on marine life. Sited about 10 miles (16km) out to sea off St Ives Bay, the hub could generate electricity for 14,000 homes and create about 700 jobs by 2020.

National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration

U.S. CLIMATE REFERENCE NETWORK PROVES VALUABLE WITHIN ONE YEAR OF OPERATION After nearly a year of full-scale operation, the U.S. Climate Reference Network is already helping to improve the tracking of temperature and precipitation trends, giving NOAA scientists and the nation's decision makers more insight into climate variability and change. When it was unveiled in January 2004, the high-tech CRN marked the first time climate measurements gathered from the Earth's surface and NOAA satellites were integrated into one source, enabling higher levels of verification of observations. NOAA's top official said the CRN is poised to be a key tool on the world stage.

National Weather Service

Americans live in the most severe weather-prone country on Earth. Each year, Americans cope with an average of 10,000 thunderstorms, 2,500 floods, 1,000 tornadoes, as well as an average of 6 deadly hurricanes. Potentially deadly weather impacts every American. Communities can now rely on the National Weather Services StormReady program to help them guard against the ravages of Mother Nature.
